FMP Doumentary Log - 24th - 27th of May

On Saturday the 22nd we went into Birmingham to get footage from the vintage clothing store COW we also go cutaways and I managed to interview the manager of the store this went well as we finished quicker than expected. We then went to the head office of bullring Birmingham to ask for permits but the lady who we were meant to meet up with wasn’t there as it wasn’t open on a Saturday so we had to come back another time.
On Monday Kate captured the footage and unfortunately in interview we captured didn’t have sound so we had to go back another time and get it. While Kate was editing and lynsey was sound editing and updating schedules, I created some more graphics including new astons that fit the theme of our documentary Vintage fashion.
On Tuesday I was away due to an appointment at the hospital.
Today Wednesday the 26th I went back to Birmingham to get some vox pops and footage of the town, I also went back to COW vintage store to get another interview from one of the staff as the manager was not available, they were very friendly and said I could also go around and film vox pops in the shop too. I then ventured off to the oasis market where there was a small vintage store. Here I met Beth fisher one of the owners of the vintage stalls and I got permission from reception allowing me to film inside. After the interview I went back to the bullring to collect my permit to allow me to film out on the bullring premises. This turned out successful and allowed me to film inside too I managed to get quite a lot of filming done and was pleased with how it went.

FMP Doumentary Log - 17th - 21st of May

This week Kate did some more capturing and editing as she was the only editor in today again. I did some more motion work and worked out what order the documentary was going in with Kate and Lynsey. On Tuesday me, Lynsey and Kate went to Birmingham to film the opening for our documentary, get voxpops and interview with the manager of COW the vintage store. We wanted to film outside of Selfridges because we thought the building was iconic but we found out that we had to have passes to film on the premises. So we went to the head office of the bullring and got forms to fill out to get permits to film next time. So we thought it was a good idea to come back on Saturday the 22nd of May instead to get all the filming done as the manager in COW was not there on Tuesday. On Saturday we will also get voxpops as we would have the whole day to film.
On Thursday the group including Sofia this time went to Leamington to get voxpops from shoppers and come cutaways. Unfortunately not a lot of people were willing to talk to us so we didn’t get a lot of filming done.

FMP Doumentary Log - 10th - 14th of May

This week we went through the footage from Cambridge fair , our editor Kate Taylor captured the footage and went through what we could use and what we couldn’t I decided to work on the graphics for the documentary on motion, these were the titles and the Astons. Since I enjoyed using motion beforehand so I decided I would do them for the group. We also worked on a rough script of what I needed to say in the documentary, we planned out that we would be going to Birmingham the following week to interview a vintage store manager and get vox pops around the town. Sofia did not come in on Tuesday, Thursdays or Friday of this week so the work was spread across the three of us, who were me Lynsey and Kate.

FMP Doumentary Log - 3rd May - 8th May

This week we were in preparation for the vintage fair we were attending in Cambridge. From the 3rd to the 7th of May we all helped in contacting the places we were planning to go to, and planning out the narrative of the documentary. I made some mock story boards of what we needed and how the interviews would be, in the end the interview shots were pretty much the same but with varied backgrounds and locations. Schedules and risk assessments and questions for voxpops and interviews were also made. I made a rough shot list of what shots we needed as well.
On the 8th we made our way down to Cambridge for the Affordable Vintage Fair. We were greeted by the founder Judy Berger and then filmed cutaways and footage of the fair, we then had an interview with Judy about the fair and how it started. In this time we managed to get some voxpops of student shoppers as well as a male stall owner. For most of the day we split into two groups so we could get two lots of filming done as there were four of us with two cameras. I thought over all the day went well as we were professional during the time we spent there as we made sure that we wore high visibility jackets as the area was crowded. We thought it was a good idea that we were paired too as one person could watch out for any obstacles approaching while the other had the camera.
Throughout the day I filmed some of the cutaways and presented the questions, I also had to present the day as I was chosen as presenter of the documentary. I didn’t feel there were any major issues during filming but I feel we should have captured more footage so we have more than enough to work with just in case some of it wasn’t as good. For example some of the vox pops captured were not good enough to use as the camera work was shaky and sometimes grainy.
